Face
Lift (Rhytidectomy)
Facial skin aging varies from one individual
to another and is also influenced by environmental
factors such as ultraviolet radiation and
pollution. Any procedure that is carried
out with the purpose of making the skin
appear younger is called REJUVENATION. In
its early stages when facial aging consists
mostly of wrinkles the current treatment
of choice is laser resurfacing. In more
advanced stages when sagging and jowls are
present the facial skin and underlying muscles
need to be tightened surgically and if neck
bands are present they would also have to
be treated surgically. This operation is
suitable for patients in their forties and
fifties with skin redundancy in the face
and neck areas, especially when there is
very little fat present under the facial
skin. In conjunction with liposuction in
the chin and neck areas, it is also effective
in treating a double chin or "turkey-gobbler
chin."
More
modern techniques in face lift which Dr.
Abrams has remarkable experience in involve
tightening of the skin and muscle layer
simultaneously, the so-called Composite
rhytidectomy. This results in a much more
youthful appearance. |
